Advance Wars revolutionized the turn-based strategy genre, giving newcomers an easy series to jump into the genre while also giving mainstay players a surprising amount of strategic depth. Before that, turn-based strategy games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Civilization were grueling, long term micromanagement games. Advance Wars instead had you throwing disposable units by the dozen at the enemy. It inspired a ton of different games, with one of them being the Battalion series. Let's look at Battalion: Ghosts.
To play Battalion: Ghosts, simply run it with whatever SWF player you have.
Visuals have been overhauled, with the hand drawn aspects completely taken out and the whole game is now made out of pixels for the better. Animation is also much smoother than before.
Gameplay mostly stays the same as the first game, just slightly more expanded with more units and technology than before. The levels do tend to integrate naval combat and aerial a lot more than before.
The story is a lot more refined than before, with you following the other side of the war as an Akadian lieutenant. It gives the game a very morally gray story and political intrigue that not a whole lot of Flash games would dive into.
All in all, Battalion: Ghosts is a fantastic fololwup to the first game that expands on the series greatly.
