X-VPN Review

X-VPN is an application that masks your IP address by allowing your computer to access certain networks from a private network, which effectively hides where in the world you are. This is typically used to browse securely and anonymously and secure your data. However, one must be aware of the reputation of the VPN provider, as your data is firmly in their hands.

X-VPN is one of the more recent VPNs to appear. At first glance, it looks like a good free VPN. It has pretty good speeds and unblocks Netflix easily. It gives you 500 megabytes of free premium data before restricting you to a free “best server” available, and limits you to 1gb of data per session. If you were hoping to stream HD Netflix, you may want to look elsewhere.

However, digging a little deeper reveals some worrying trends. It's advertised as having seven protocols – more than the standard five that most VPNs come with. However, nowhere does it say what those protocols are. It instead displays a rather bizarre claim that “To protect your privacy, we will use A,B,C... instead of the real protocol name.” This is highly unusual, as it does the opposite of protecting our privacy. You might accidentally choose an insecure protocol without realizing it due to the lack of information.

Considering that privacy is just as, if not more important, than speed, it's difficult to recommend X-VPN based on the information provided. Especially of note is that the fast speed may not be an indication of its servers – it may simply be indicative of a lower level of encryption and safety. It's fine to use this software if you simply want to watch some videos occasionally, but I wouldn't recommend using it for transferring anything important or confidential.
