A networking software with the main purpose of allowing censored Internet users from countries with strict Internet censorship to access websites that they would otherwise not be able to on normal circumstances. Freegate takes advantage of a range of proxy servers which are called DynaWeb. This will allow users to bypass Internet freewalls that block websites by using Dynamic Internet Technology Inc's peer to peer proxy network system.
The application, Freegate, has been around for quite some time now and started out in 2001 by assist in providing email delivery services to China for United States government agencies and NGOs. In 2002, Dynamic Internet Technology Inc started to provide anti censorship services under the framework of their creation, DynaWeb. Much like UltraSurf, DynaWeb became a top contender of the GFW penetration effort.
For users in countries that are not able to access many websites that they would like to access, the usage of Freegate would assist them in accessing these websites essentially enabling them access to the entire Internet by the usage of the Freegate proxies provided through DynaWeb. With a strong belief of anti censorship, the software continues to be updated to ensure maximum penetration through locked down networks in censored countries.
Back in 2004, it was reported that Freegate had over 200,000 users and the application continues to be just as popular, if not more popular today.
