The Longest Walk 1.0

Low budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to create an epic, the creators instead need to focus on one unique feature to make their games stick out. From these restrictions come some truly inventive concepts. One of them is The Longest Walk, a walking simulator about a man's mental journey through his own depression.

This is a walking simulator, so the game is purely about its graphics and narrative storytelling. Thankfully, it is excellent in both of these areas. The game is made up wholly of a series of diorama style scenes of various moments in the main character's life. These dioramas are all beautiful, being both hazy yet crystal clear as to what each is depicting. 

The voicework is also phenomenal. There are little signs here and there that the voice actor isn't exactly a professional, but he is still very much capable of portraying the emotions that this video game requires. The game has an incredibly compelling insight into depression - the idea that it will never leave and you may never truly beat it, but that you can survive with it and there is a light at the end of the tunnel is a much more grounded take on the topic, as expected from a PhD professor.

All in all, if you want to play a game with an incredibly unique premise, then you should give The Longest Walk a download.
