The Start menu is one of the most important components to any OS. That's where, technically, you can find every single program you've ever installed. However, the default start menu for Windows is surprisingly annoying to navigate, mainly because Microsoft decided to stuff a bunch of functions that are impossible to disable fully so they stay out of the way. If you want to edit your Start Menu or just have a better-looking one in general, then you should give Start Menu X a download.
Upon installing Start Menu X, it will automatically replace the start menu. This start menu is only shown when Start Menu X is opened. By default, it will boot up along with Windows, but you can change this from the options panel by right-clicking on it in your toolbar. If you want, you can also drag and drop the Start Menu wherever you want on the desktop and resize it according to how big you want it. The program will automatically rescale the main panel according to your new dimensions, so you don't have to worry about squished icons.
The first thing you'll notice is that the functions of Windows Explorer is built into it, and the Run command is right there in easy reach. It shows all your folders and programs in alphabetical order by default. If you want, you can sort them into different groups, though the free version only has 5 available at once.
If you're sick of the old Start Menu, then give Start Menu X a shot! Even the free version is a vast improvement.
