Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at Starcatcher.

To install Starcatcher, simply unzip the files inside the archive into any folder you want.

This game was created for 1-button Jam 2022, which was a game jam where game designers came together to create games that you played with only one button. This game was definitely one of the standouts from that game jam and is a wonderful example of the kind of creativity the event's format can foster.

This platformer has a very simple concept. You hold X to walk forward and release X to jump. Your little spaceman won't fall off of edges if he walks across them - he'll simply rotate and keep walking on the wall. You can also press X in the middle of a jump to instantly ground pound and change your direction.

This ends up giving the game a shocking amount of reactiveness. However, the limited range of movement does make it play out more like a puzzle than a real platformer. Each level usually has one method of winning, making it quite the linear experience. However, that doesn't take away from how fun the gameplay itself is.

All in all, Starcatcher is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
