This game is designed around Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, widely considered one of the best fighting games around. Thus, this game shares many of the same mechanics. Each character can be augmented by pressing down then up, a burst move can be built up and activated, and each character can build up an ultra combo gauge to unleash a special move. This game has fantastic graphics. The game uses cell-shaded, high resolution models that give each character an incredibly fluid look while maintaining visual fidelity close to traditional 2D games or sprite works. Each character has their own distinct look and playstyle, making it easy to main a character.

Overall, Sonic Smackdown is definitely one of the best Sonic fan games out there, with incredibly tight gameplay and fantastic looking graphics. Fans of fighting games overall should take a look at this one.
