Minecraft is a game with limitless potential. While people constantly push the boundaries with mods adding more and more gameplay features to the point where it can straight up turn into a strategy game or just flat out be a very functional MMORPG. However, there is a ton of things that can be done with vanilla Minecraft to this day. In fact, new things are still being added to Minecraft to this day. One of them is Villager Recruits, which lets you recruit villagers to a couple of different combat professions that can 

Installing Villager Recruits is simple. Make sure you have Minecraft Forge installed, then navigate to your mods folder and drag it in.

There are three different profession tables you can send villagers to. There's a standard recruits table with a sword on it, a bowman's table with a bow on it, and a shieldman's table with a shield on it. It's pretty self explanatory what these classes do. 

When a villager without a profession approaches one of these tables, they will change to the specified profession. You can then right-click on them to hire them. 

You can then order them to follow certain behaviors. If you set them to neutral or aggressive, they will attack any enemies that come to your base. You can also fine tune their commands, such as if you want them to start raids or specifically go after a certain target.

Villager Recruits is a mod that gives you a lot more options in gameplay and you should give it a shot if you're a Minecraft fan.
