Split Second Review

It’s a shame that Split Second's demo gives you so little of the game, Disney’s attempt to enter the racing genre probably was always doomed and although Split Second has been around for a good few years it clearly fell under the radar especially when there is well established (and utterly fantastic) racing games out there such as Gran Turismo and Need for Speed but Split Second is a fun game.
At first glance it may look quite dated, perhaps even reminding you of another classic racing game Outrun (well for those of you old enough to remember it anyway!) but Split Second is fun and lots of it, it’s not a realistic race simulator but it focuses on fun and being enjoyable even the warning message at the start reminds you not to drive like this in real life, the arrow keys control are just the right sensitivity which can be a problem on some PC racing games, the level available on the demo is a three lap race round an airport the races are action packed and high octane, you also have the ability to crash other cars out, although they can do this to you also so you must stay focused and be aware of all the competitors around you who will be doing their best to knock you off the track.
The graphics aren’t fantastic but they aren’t bad either, they do their function and when the game is as enjoyable as this there is not much to complain about.
It would be great if there was a bit more to the demo so as to get a feel of at least one or two of the other tracks available in the full game. You can download the free demo here.
