There are many video editors out there - the most commonly used ones are professional, paid software such as Sony Vegas Pro. However, there are many free video editors that can compete, and Shotcut is one of them. It's free and open source, meaning that users are updating it constantly, and it can handle a wide range of media formats. The official website offers forums, FAQs, and other resources. Recent updates also include several filters and thumbnails.

Shotcut's user interface looks extremely cluttered at first glance, but it's actually very streamlined in practice. Each menu serves a purpose that would fly over the head of normal users. For example, the View menu lets you control which features and display on the screen. If you close out a lot of the extraneous features such as filters/encoders, you'll be left with an incredibly minimalistic and streamlined layout. 

If you want to know more about the software, there's a built-in Quick Start Guide that details the most useful hotkeys for an editor, such as controlling playback speed with two buttons. You can also drag and drop video files into the library for easy access. Shotcut played the video with a frame counter and each mark on the timeline is split into tenths of seconds. 

Editing with Shotcut is much like editing with other software, if you've used them. However, there are some extra features to make it easier in that area as well. Instead of dragging where you want to edit, you can instead place markers showing where you want to cut/copy or paste, which leads you with a clear indicator on the clip's size and length.

Out of many free video editors, Shotcut is easily one of the most competent. Give it a shot if you're interested!
