Flash games were like the wild west. During the time they were around, modern game design in and of itself wasn't fully fleshed out. Sure, there were a couple of soft rules, but experimentation was everywhere.  Flash games were and are the most experimental games you can play around as they don't really care what's "right" and what's "wrong". Run 3 is a product of these times and really innovated on the simple gameplay enough to become the best version of itself.

This game still has the formula where you control a runner going through an infinite tunnel in space, and you have to simply jump over holes to avoid dying. This game innovates even further on the very simple formula by adding a bunch of environmental hazards. For instance, there are now crumbling tiles, ramps, darkness, and even the ability to re-enter a tunnel after jumping out of a hole, make this the most skill intensive entry by far.

There is also a shop and in-game currency now, which lets you buy upgrades and characters. The simple act of adding a progression system to an already addictive game is borderline criminal with how much more addictive it is now.

All in all, if you liked the gameplay in the last few games of the series, Run 3 is by far the best version of that formula there is.
