What browser should you use in 2015? Chrome vs Firefox vs Opera vs Internet Explorer vs Safari

What browser should you use in 2015? Chrome vs Firefox vs Opera vs Internet Explorer vs Safari

Time to kick off 2015, and what better way to do it than with a side-by-side comparison of the best browsers available in 2015: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer, all of which you can find right here on Rocky Bytes.

Firefox

Is one of the biggest names in the industry. Developed by the non-profit organization Mozilla, Firefox greatest strength is the versatility of its addons and extensions, some of which can only be found on this web browser. The address bar and search bar are still separate, but that is a minor and mostly aesthetic complaint as the services work rather well. The biggest downside to Firefox is that depending on your machine’s configuration it can be quite a resource hog.

Chrome

Is Google’s implementation of Chromium, with added bells and whistles that only Google can provide, such as the native integration with every Google app ever created, plus some of its extensions blur the line between web and desktop applications, letting you have anchored instances of Chrome acting as desktop apps. On the security level, it goes one step beyond other browsers by identifying and blocking harmful downloads.

Safari

Safari will be familiar to Mac users as it’s the Mac OS’s built-in browser, much like Internet Explorer is to Windows. Sadly, it doesn’t offer many unique features or extensions to put it ahead of the other competitors. The good things are the ability to set the browser to full-screen and iCloud integration, to synchronize your preferences across multiple Apple devices. But these are only available to Mac users (Safari for Windows is extremely outdated by now).

Internet Explorer (IE)

Usually the butt of every web browser joke, Internet Explorer isn’t the best browser out there. The main issue with IE is how Microsoft never made it compliant with most standards, meaning every application or site developed will work differently in Internet Explorer compared to other browsers (or not work at all). But on the upside, it has the most powerful security measures, surpassing Chrome’s features and including a Tracking Blocker, to stop attackers from tracking your IP and get your private information.

Opera

Opera is another Chromium based internet browser, and its claim to fame comes from its fantastic Speed Dial feature, which lets you quickly save preferred web sites as easily accessible thumbnails, and Pocket, which allows you to easily save pages for future reading. It also has native support for touch-screens, making the preferred choice for most mobile devices. Its other strength is its minimalist design and clear interface.

If we have to choose one for the title of What Browser to use in 2015, it would have to be Chrome. Between constant and silent updates, hundreds of addons and smooth integration with all of Google’s apps, it’s clearly the best of the best, though its competitors are constantly upping their game.
