Low budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to create an epic, the creators instead need to focus on one unique feature to make their games stick out. From these restrictions comes some truly inventive concepts. One of them is Mother's Little Helper, a horror game where you help your loving mother cook a meal.
To play Mother's Little Helper, simply unzip the archive and run the executable.
The game follows the new trend of indie horror games, where they emulate a PS1 game to make the player uncomfortable. This game doesn't look great technically, but it definitely fits the atmosphere incredibly well.
This game just takes a few minutes to play through. It's a very short, but also very well crafted horror game with an incredibly unsettling atmosphere and an interesting setting. You play as a child, and the game starts when your mother asks for your help cooking. You just have to do what your mother says, and grab various ingredients and prepare them when your mother tells you to.
The game never quite makes the leap over to horror, but it is definitely one of the most unsettling games you'll play. Things never feel quite right all the way until the end, where the ending gets incredibly dark suddenly. If any of that sounds appealing to you, then you should definitely give Mother's Little Helper a try. It's an incredibly interesting and short game.
