Eight Millimeters is a surprisingly deep game set in the not so distant future in the aftermath of an alien invasion that resulted in all-out war, it comes across as a kind of visual novel at first where you play as a filmmaker trying to make a documentary in the aftermath of the alien war, however the game is much more interactive than you would think and you play certain sections of the war experiences as flashbacks from your own eyes and that of others.
Although the graphics are kind of blocky in a sort of Minecraft style the first person shooter game play is actually a lot of fun and more challenging than you may expect in a game where it seemed the focus would be more on story line.
Eight Millimeters is a fairly short game only coming in at about twenty minutes in total to complete and the developers advise to do it in one sitting which is a good idea especially as there is no save feature.
A lot of depth and interesting dialogue is included in the scenes where you are talking or interviewing people for the documentary and the first person shooter parts to the game are very enjoyable to, it’s quite a clever move to take a serious subject such as war and then set it in the future and not as a war between countries but between humans and aliens and therefore taking a powerful topic but toning down the overall seriousness of the topics that it covers.
