DotA Allstars is a fun, strategy multiplayer battle arena mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. It is based on the map "Aeon of Strife" for StarCraft. 

DotA was originally developed as a third party mod for Warcraft III back in 2003. Blizzard developed a World Editor that allowed third parties to make their own maps for online scenarios of Warcraft III, which was used to create DotA, or "Defense of the Ancients". 

DotA has been popular for about ten years now, and has become a feature at many worldwide tournaments, including Blizzard Entertainment's BlizzCon and Asian World Cyber Games. When it comes to serious gaming, like the StarCraft series, this mod definitely has its serious followers that strive to be the best at the game and strive for success. 

DotA Allstars is a multiplayer battle arena mod for two to ten players, as well as single player version with AI allies and opponents for practicing your skills before you go out into the online world. Like many online battle area games with a strong following, DotA definitely encourages practicing before going online and playing on a team with other players. This prevents newbies from joining teams and not knowing how to play the game very well. 

One thing to be aware of when it comes to DotA is that it is a very simple mod and maintains that idea to this day. It is a map you simply add to the Warcraft III for gameplay. DotA also inspired many other similar games, such as well-known, popular League of Legends.
