Flash games were the precursors to many parts of the gaming industry today. The creativity and willingness to experiment has translated over to the indie games industry, many design elements that are used in AAA games today were first observed in flash games, and the casual nature of many flash games has translated over to the mobile game industry. Age of War is one of those games, introducing the 2D sidescrolling war simulators.

To install Age of War, simply run the file in whatever SWF player you have.

This game is pretty simple to play. You can build turrets, use specials, and most importantly build units in the top right corner. You start off as cavemen, only able to build basic clubmen and slingshot units as well as egg launchers for turrets. Your enemy will start sending enemies at you. When you kill these enemies, you'll get XP and money. XP is used to advance your side through the ages until you get to sci-fi territory, and gold is used to purchase all the units, turrets, and more. 

Unfortunately, this game isn't very well balanced. Spamming ranged units is far more effective than melee units, and it's far too easy to hunker down near your base with a turret to deny your opponent XP while also letting you cut them down with ease.

If you can look past that, then you should definitely give Age of War a shot.
