DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. Some of these aim to bend the rules of DOOM as much as possible. One of them is Absolutely Killed.
To install Absolutely Killed, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.
The first thing you'll notice when you play these maps is that there are a lot of experimental tweaks to the normal combat formula. In essence, it has a lot of map specific hazards that hinder your ability to fight monsters. Each of these maps have a gimmick that aim to test your flexibility.
For example, Boxed In has a ton of different sector machinery and messes with you hard. Barons of Fun force you to use barrels to destroy the goat men. In Aardwolf, the exit is available in the beginning. Hots and Maze have damage floors, with the former being about avoidance and the latter time management. Light has arenas shrouded in darkness, with enemies appearing only when they step in the light or when they attack.
Overall, none of these gimmicks overstay their welcome and it's interesting to see how it changes your playstyle. If that sounds interesting to you, then you should give Absolutely Killed a download.
