The western video game industry has had eras. When it first began, it was the era where they rushed out games and oversaturated the market before killing it off momentarily. Then it was the renaissance era, where genres were defined and even innovated upon. Then it was the FPS era, where Halo and Call of Duty reigned supreme and everyone tried to steal their audience. And now we're in the battle royale era. Ring of Elysium is one of many that has propped up over the years.

The main thing that differentiates this game from others in the genre are the three classes you can choose from. Whereas Apex Legends gives each character unique abilities, these three classes are simply different traversal options. Yet, that's more than enough to completely change the way each encounter plays out. There is a bike, glider, and a grapple gun that lets each player move far differently than another player.

There is also no aerial bombardment of players in the beginning of the round, you simply need to choose your starting point on the map. The game starts with boots on the ground to start off with. Loot is also plentiful, and you'll find yourself near full strength pretty early in the round, making it more friendly for casual players to get a taste of power.

Overall, Ring of Elysium does enough to be different from its competition and is worthy of a close look.
