Realistic shooters are an incredibly narrow niche. Why would you want to deal with the fact that if you get shot once, your performance will be impeded? Or having to deal with the lack of a crosshair? Or even have to compensate for your character's breathing? Well, Red Orchestra proved that there was an audience for it.
To install Red Orchestra, make sure you have Unreal Tournament 2004 installed and then run the .bat file.
The main gimmick of this game, of course, is its realism. There is no crosshair for the player to aim with. Instead, you have to aim down a three-dimensional iron sight or aim from the hip. You have to compensate for the character's breathing and sway when you're aiming down sights, while starting is accurate only at short range.
Your health is also not represented by health points, but by a diagram of the player's body with reddened sections. You get a debuff depending on where you get shot. If you get shot to the legs or feet, you will slow down significantly. If you are shot in the hands, you will drop your current weapon. Rifles will also kill players in one shot if they connect with the torso or the head.
There is a whole other dimension such as vehicles, all with realistic multiple roles. If you want to experience a realistic war scenario, then you should give Red Orchestra a download. It's still played even to this day despite not having support for a while.
