Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at Elevated Dread.
To install Elevated Dread, simply unzip the files inside the archive into any folder you want.
The premise is simple. You play as a kid who's trying to earn some cash and have been tasked with posting some flyers in a variety of places. The last area on his stop is an incredibly creepy apartment building, and that's where you take control.
It's an incredibly creepy place, with a bunch of drawings scribbled everywhere and TVs being left on with nobody around. There are a bunch of missing children posters posted everywhere but nothing will stand in your way of getting a couple of beer tickets.
Oh, and there's a hellbeast stalking the apartment, of course.
This game is very creepy, mainly due to the atmosphere. The actual jump scares wouldn't be all that scary if the atmosphere wasn't designed so immaculately. What the game exceeds at is environmental storytelling. You can peace together what each resident is like based on how their room looks, and a vivid image of what's happened in this apartment can be drawn up in your head by the end.
All in all, Elevated Dread is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
