Dungeons and Dragons is one of the most popular tabletop games in existence, if not the most popular. The sheer breadth of options available to you in character customization itself is staggering, and the adventures cooked up by your dungeon master have infinite replay value. How well would that translate into an MMORPG, though? Dungeons and Dragons Online tries to answer that question.
The installer for Dungeons and Dragons Online will install a launcher, which will then finish the process. Like other MMORPGs, you'll need an account to play it. In what appears to be a mild reference to the customizability of normal D&D, this game has an extensive character creator. You can select your play style, which is melee, spell, specialist, and iconic. Finally, you select your class and path, and you finish off by distributing the various stats so you can further specialize.
The game's graphics are dated, but the art style is strong enough that it still stands on its own well. The combat system is also unlike other MMOs - instead of the tab targeting system, it takes a more active-combat approach so you can swing your weapon and hit nothing, or dodge incoming attacks.
The lore is extremely well constructed and the audio is polished as well, making it as engaging as some of the best fantasy games around. Dungeons and Dragons Online has been around for ages, and there are good reasons for it - if you want to take a look at a great MMORPG, look no further.
