Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at Días Felices.

The premise is interesting. You wake up in your house, and it seems like a pretty typical happy home life with your girlfriend. However, everything about the presentation paints it as a horror game, which juxtaposes with the setting and immediately sets you on edge. The VCR filter, the ominous hum in the background, and how everything looks a bit too dark despite all the light is a fantastic way to set a tone.

Of course, things get more wrong the longer you play the game. Your wife insists on serving you nothing but tuna, the storm outside won't stop, the water won't turn on, and every painting in the house starts getting crooked when you aren't looking. By the third day, the game's not even pretending to be a happy setting anymore as your house has fully transformed into a haunted house.

The way the narrative unfolds after that is rather standard and predictable, but the atmosphere never lets up the whole way and it helps carry the story to heights it would never have reached on its own.

All in all, Días Felices is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
