Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at Carbon Steel.

To install Carbon Steel, simply unzip the files inside the archive into any folder you want.

The premise is simple and creepy. You play as an employee of a research facility who promises a ton of money for only three days' work. However, you quickly find out that the facility is likely doing some illegal things. Your job is to raise different lethal creatures from the depths, sedate them, and then take a sample from them. The only problem is you have been given no guidance and you have no idea how to work the machinery. The game revolves around you figuring it all out so you can earn your paycheck.

The developer, Mike Klubnika, is incredibly good at worldbuilding and it shows here. It sets the atmosphere fantastically as you enter the facility and commute to the appropriate location. The room you're provided for lodgings is incredibly lived in and it's plain to see that you aren't the only on that's been in here.

The game design is very intelligent and you will feel as confused as your in-universe character is. All you have for instructions are some emails that detail the process that don't bother to explain how to actually work the machinery that's involved. And while you raise creatures up, you never see them, only hear them scratching and whining. And it's far creepier when your imagination can do the work.

All in all, Carbon Steel is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
