Sandbox MMOs are a risky proposition, especially now that the general public has gotten used to the theme park style MMOs that World of Warcraft popularized. Most players would feel lost and confused on how to proceed in a truly sandbox experience. However, the sandbox MMOs that do it right were some of the most memorable experiences of their time, and Black Desert Online does its best to recreate that.

To really emphasize the sandbox nature of this game, there are way more non combat jobs than there are combat jobs. You can easily lose hours attempting to tame horses, building houses, controlling trade, and more. You can breed animals, build ships to sail with, and more. Very few other modern MMORPGs will give you this level of sandbox gameplay.

The art style also helps lend it a realistic feel alongside the gameplay. It really feels like you're living in another world, and your idle farm life can really lend itself well to that feeling. However, that's not to say that this is a well balanced MMORPG. The further you go, the more you start to notice the insane amount of grind that this game has. To get anything done, you'll have to constantly go back and forth between areas to get supplies.

Overall, if you're alright with some crazy grind, then you'll more than likely end up loving Black Desert Online. Give it a chance and you may find yourself falling in love with the world.
