Walking simulators tend to get a bad rap for gameplay, but even they usually have an end-goal and a solid narrative. Bernband has none of these, which makes it really hard to categorize. It plays like a walking simulator, except there's no goal, and no purpose. You just explore and soak in the ambiance of this strange world.
To install Bernband, simply unzip the files into a folder and run it.
The thing that makes this game so unique and special is how much work has gone into fleshing out this world. The devs spared no effort in making this world believable. You can explore schools where alien children are taking lessons on strange, luminescent holographic boards. You'll find a shop where the aliens buy food, and the shop itself is complete with a bathroom. You'll also find a ton of other little details like that in various other areas.
You'll also explore churches, night clubs, a musical recital, apartments, and more. After saying all that, I think it's more accurate to say that this is a true simulation game of an alien society. You can easily slip into the role of an anthropologist, trying to analyze their society through gameplay. Is the reason that there are so many bars around the city that they're incredibly social and love booze. You can also infer what their religion is from the churches.
Bernband is an incredibly unique experience that can suck you in despite the absolute lack of depth in gameplay. It epitomizes what makes experimental games great.
